Masala Vada
Chana dal vada or Masala vada is a popular South Indian tea time snack made with chana dal, spices, onions & herbs. It is also a street food & most commonly served in tiffin centers as a evening snack with a chutney. Masala means a mixture of spices & vada is a fried lentil snack.

Ingredients
- [Chana Dal] | [1 cup]
- [ Urad Dal] | [2 table spoon]
- [Rice floor] | [1 table spoon]
- [Green chillies][4-5]
- [Ginger][1 inch]
- [Garlic][Crushed 1table spoon]
- [Dil leaves][1 small bunch]
- [Salt] [As per taste]
- [Curry leaves]
- [Onion][1 finely chopped]
- [Cinnamon] [1 inch]
Directions
Soak 1 cup chana dal, 2 tables spoon urad dal for 3-4 hours.
Drain excess water from the dal and keep aside.
Now to a mixer add chana dal, urad dal, green chillies, ginger, garlic, cinnamon. Do not add water. Grind the content to a coarse paste. Make sure to not grind it to paste. You should be able to see few whole dal as is. Now transfer it to a bowl. To this add chopped onion, dil leaves, curry leaves, rice flour, hing and salt as per taste. Mix well.
Now heat oil for deep frying.
Grease your palms with oil before making each vada.
Take a lemon-sized batter each time and pat into a flat round shape.
When the oil is hot, leave the vadas into the oil carefully.
Fry the vadas on medium-high flame until they turn into nice golden brown color.
